Treatment & therapy of larynx cancer

After detailed examination of the tumor under anesthesia, the treatment options are decided.  The following options are available:

  • Surgery
  • Radiation
  • Chemotherapy

In the early stages, cancer can be removed completely with a partial removal of the larynx (partial laryngectomy). If the tumor has a favorable position, the removal is carried out via laser through the mouth.  Otherwise the access is done via a small throat incision. In any case, after the surgery you will initially need an artificial breathing opening (thracheostoma). In this way, air is supplied from the outside to the lungs.  Sometimes the tracheostoma remains for a lifetime.
