What is cardiac failure?

Heart failure designates a state in which the heart is not able to supply blood to the whole body.  This is one of the most frequent causes of death in Germany. Synonyms of heart failure are:

  • Cardiac failure
  • Heart muscle failure
  • Myocardium failure

Throughout Germany, around 320 people of 100,000 suffer from heart failure each year. The rate among 70-year olds up to 80-year olds is now increasing dramatically. Men are one and a half times more likely to fall sick and mostly earlier than women. Thanks to modern medicine, both the life expectancy and the life quality have increased significantly in the last years.
